With the cooperation of the Englewood Police Department, Sirchie is offering its comprehensive hands-on Crime Scene Reconstruction Training at the Englewood Police Department, 3615 S. Elati St Englewood, CO 80110.
This class is approved for 40 hours crime scene and 10 hours of BPA credit toward initial and recertifications.
This comprehensive 5-day course offers an in-depth exploration of Crime Scene Reconstruction (CSR), integrating Bloodstain Pattern Analysis (BPA), Shooting Incident Reconstruction, and Event Analysis to scientifically interpret violent crime scenes. Students will learn the importance of applying a methodical, scientific approach to the examination, analysis, and interpretation of physical evidence. Key topics include establishing causal links, distinguishing between activity and source-level events, and reconstructing the sequence of events leading to a crime. Emphasizing the scientific method, this course guides students through hypothesis development, testing, and critical assessment to ensure accurate and objective crime scene analysis.
A key component of this course is bloodstain pattern analysis, where students will learn structured methodologies to identify stain patterns, determine mechanisms of bloodshed, and assess movement within a crime scene. The shooting incident reconstruction segment will cover trajectory analysis, projectile behavior, and firearm discharge dynamics, equipping students with the skills to interpret ballistic evidence within the broader context of a crime.
Beyond physical evidence, this course emphasizes event-level reconstruction, challenging students to apply critical thinking, logical reasoning, and interdisciplinary forensic principles to crime scene interpretation. The interconnected roles of forensic disciplines—such as pathology, toxicology, and trace evidence analysis—will be explored to provide a comprehensive, science-based approach to crime scene reconstruction.
Through case studies, practical exercises, and hands-on activities, students will bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world forensic applications. In the final stages of the course, students will analyze and reconstruct real, adjudicated cases, applying the investigative and analytical skills developed throughout the course. By the end of this class, students will be equipped to analyze complex crime scenes with precision, ensuring that forensic evidence is accurately interpreted, ethically applied, and legally defensible in the pursuit of justice.
