Lifting Tapes

Hot to use Sirchie Fingerprint Lifting Tapes:

1. After the latent print has been developed with powders and photographed, lifting should be accomplished.

2. Hold the loose end of the tape with the thumb and forefinger of one hand and the roll in the other.

3. Pull out enough tape to cover the area to be lifted (usually 6”-7”).

4. Secure the loose end of the tape beside the print or prints to be lifted and hold it there with the forefinger.

5. Slide the thumb along the top of the tape, forcing it gently down over the print.

6. The roll being held in the other hand should not be released during this operation.

7. Using care, the tape should be smoothed down over the print, forcing out any air bubble entrapments, as the thumb moves toward the roll.

8. If the surface on which the print is located would be destroyed by removing the tape, it should be left on and the article secured for transport from the field.

9. If the above is not the case, the powdered print may be removed by pulling up on the roll end.

10. When the tape is free of the surface it should be transferred to a backing card or other medium.

11. When secured, the tape should be cut from the roll and the loose end folded over. Tape dispensers are very desirable accessories when using lifting tape.
